– NATURALLY –
“The cork used in our yoga products is a 100% renewable and recyclable, one of the most eco friendly materials.”
WHAT IS CORK, WHER DOES IT COME FROM ?
The Cork is obtained from the outer bark of the trees, which grows in the Mediterranean. These trained professionals are able to slit the outer bark and peel it from the trunk with a specialized cork axe after all major branches are carefully stripped by hand without damaging the tree. The bark can be stripped for its cork once every 9 years, leaving the cork a renewable, lasting natural treasure.
REDUCING OUR ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT
Cork oak trees store carbon dioxide to regenerate their bark. They play a significant role in maintaining the balance of the atmosphere. These oak forests contribute to the biological diversity of forests, and therefore have a rich wildlife.
USE OF CORK IN MANY DIFFERENT AREAS
The advantages of cork were already known in ancient Egypt, Asia and the Greek city states.
It has been used to make sandals, used for insulation of ships, boats and even roof coverings, also for the production of ping pong rackets, in addition to its generaly used in the wine industry. However, its application in the construction industry is the most common and important.
Many of us would not think that cork is used because of its special features, from architecture to beauty industry, space exploration, and subway assembly structures. To this day, they have not yet found better insulation material for space cabins.
